Refractive Music has had a refresh. A look at the updated music catalogue, simpler direct licensing, help finding music for your project, custom composition and what's coming next from the studio.
I've recently given the production music part ofthe Refractive Music website a bit of a refresh.
Refractive Music has been around for a while now, and over the years I've written and recorded a catalogue of music for licensing. For quite a while the website was set up much more like a traditional stock music library search for a track, license it and download it.
I'm still doing that, but I wanted the website to better reflect what Refractive Music has become.
It's not just a music library. It's also the studio where I compose, record and produce my music, and I want to make it easier for people to work directly with me.
Finding music for your project
The catalogue is still at the heart of the site, with music covering everything from acoustic guitar and atmospheric soundscapes to rock, orchestral, electronic and New Zealand-inspired music.
I've reorganised a lot of it into more useful collections and playlists to make browsing easier.
But sometimes searching through music libraries isn't the easiest way to find the right track.
So I've added a Help Me Find Music option. If you're a videographer, filmmaker, editor or anyone else looking for music for a project, tell me a little about what you're working on and the kind of feeling you're after. I'll go through my catalogue myself and put together a small selection of tracks that I think could work.
There's no charge or obligation for that — it's simply another way to find music.
Simple direct licensing
I've also simplified the licensing.
Music from my existing catalogue is US$150 per track, per project, with a straightforward worldwide, perpetual commercial licence.
No licence tiers or trying to work out which option your project fits into.
Something original
And if the right piece isn't already in the catalogue, I can also create something specifically for your project.
This isn't about trying to write every possible style of music for everybody. I have my own musical strengths and sounds, and if those fit what you're looking for, we can work together to create something original around your brief.
Original music starts from US$350.
More from the studio
The other thing I want to do is show a little more of what happens behind the music.
Most of Refractive Music is created here in my studio in Kirwee, just outside Christchurch, New Zealand. So alongside new music, I'll be sharing more about the recording process, instruments, ideas behind tracks and probably some of the experiments that don't quite go according to plan.
So that's the refreshed Refractive Music.
The catalogue is still here. I'm still writing plenty of music. But hopefully the new site makes it easier to find the right track and makes it a little easier to work directly with the person who made it.
