About Refractive Music
Music from New Zealand
Based in Kirwee, just outside Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand, I write, record and produce music for licensing and media, alongside my own independent releases and children's music. My catalogue is available for use in television, advertising, documentaries, film and other productions.

Outside my studio
Living and working in New Zealand has naturally found its way into my music and is a source of inspiration. Alongside a broad catalogue of acoustic, rock, ambient, cinematic and other production music, I've created music inspired by the landscapes, sounds and character of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Refractive Music began in 2005 from our home in Rolleston, originally as an independent record label and guitar teaching business, as well as a way for me to record, release and distribute my own music. Over the years it has evolved alongside my work as a musician, composer and producer.
Today, Refractive Music brings those different parts of my work together: music for licensing and media, my own independent releases, and Refractive Music Kids, featuring original children's music full of humour, characters and imagination.

A new home and studio
In 2021 we moved from Rolleston to Kirwee, a small rural community just outside Christchurch. The move gave me the opportunity to build a dedicated studio and create a permanent home for Refractive Music.
The studio is where I now write, record and produce much of my music, from production music and independent releases to Refractive Music Kids.
It's a quiet place to work, surrounded by the Canterbury countryside, and it's where Refractive Music is based today. One thing hasen't changed, it's still messy and full of guitars!
